Brenda Lisenby

Location: China

Hometown: Tyler, Texas

Commissioned: 1999

As one of CBF's field personnel, Brenda Lisenby works with Angel House Rehabilitation & Education Center in Guangxi Province along China’s southern border. Angel House is one of the few schools in the country designed specifically to serve children with cerebral palsy.

“We definitely work among a marginalized segment of society,” Lisenby said. “This work gives me an opportunity to impact whole families, and even the community at large, as Chinese society learns how to affirm and welcome special needs individuals into their society. I am amazed at how God works.”

Lisenby also works with the Nepalese community in Hong Kong. In a city of more than 7 million people, Nepalese comprise less than 0.01 percent of the population. There are only about 16,000 Nepalese in Hong Kong, the remnant of the British Gurkha soldiers and their families. The Gurkhas transitioned into the security guard business and construction work after the colony returned to China in 1997 and face educational and economic challenges in a culture that does not accommodate ethnic diversity easily. Lisenby partners with Inner City Ministries to provide parent education and family support to the Nepalese community.
