ATLANTA – The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship has announced the start of the CBF Fellows program, which is designed to provide support, resources and encouragement for individuals in their first years of full-time ministry.

The Fellows program is made possible through a grant from the Religion Division of the Lilly Endowment Inc. and is being conducted in partnership with the Center for Congregational Health and Center for Teaching Churches at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology.

“The world in which new ministers and their congregations find themselves is unlike any we have ever known,” said Terry Hamrick, the Fellowship’s coordinator of missional visioning. “The challenges of institutional survival in a rapidly changing world are overwhelming many ministers as they enter congregational ministry.”

The Fellows program is designed to help ministers establish practices and rhythms that help sustain ministry. The program’s first cohort of 25 ministers will begin gathering in the fall of 2012. In the course of the two-year cohort, participants will meet in person five times for continuing education, engage in conference calls four times a year and have access to local peer learning groups and professional coaching.

“The CBF Fellows program is designed to create a space where ‘first call’ ministers can reflect on their calling and how to live out that calling in their congregations,” Hamrick said.

Applications for the program are available online, and the deadline to apply is April 30. For more information or to apply, go to www.thefellowship.info/fellows.

CBF is a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice. The Fellowship’s mission is to serve Christians and churches as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission.
