Practicing Resurrection: The Call of the Shore

A CBF spiritual renewal retreat for ministers and lay leaders
April 21-24, 2014
Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club, Naples, FL

So friends,
Every day do something that won’t compute…
Give your approval to all you cannot understand….
Ask questions that have no answers.
Put your faith in the two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years…
Laugh.
Be joyful though you have considered all the facts….
Practice resurrection.
 -Wendell Berry

Come the week after Easter to kneel, to walk and to pray along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico in Naples, FL. Place your feet in the moist sand of the shore mindful of the resurrected Jesus preparing breakfast and asking, “Do you love me?” Take pause. Let the solitude, wind and power of the ocean waves call you forward into the community of the resurrection. Begin the great fifty days of Easter together with us.

This experience of rest and renewal begins Monday, April 21, at 3 p.m. and continues through lunch on Thursday, April 24. After sharing morning prayers, you will spend the day in the wonder of God’s good creation, enjoying life’s simpler pleasures of sitting on the beach, deep sea fishing, biking, a round of golf, sea shell hunting and some laid back Florida beach chair conversation. Each evening we will gather after dinner to relate how our re-creation has nourished our souls.

Dr. Roger Paynter, Pastor of FBC Austin, TX will lead the evening study and reflection times centered on the resurrection texts of scripture. Rev. Meredith Stone, Women in Ministry Specialist with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will lead the morning devotional times. Music will be provided by Tommy and Rachel Shapard and Bob Searl. Tommy is Minister of Worship at Hendricks Ave Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL and Rachel is CBF FL Associate Coordinator. Bob is pastor of North Stewart Baptist Church, Stewart, FL.

Sponsored by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and joined by CBF Florida.
