Collegiate Congregational Internships

The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Collegiate Congregational Internship Project hopes to provide an opportunity for our young adults to connect with local congregations in a meaningful and engaging way.  We also want to challenge churches to mentor young adults through a congregational experience for a summer of serving and learning.

How can a Student be a Collegiate Congregational Intern?

If you believe that being a Collegiate Congregational Intern is an experience that would give you and opportunity to explore a call to live out your faith this summer, then here are some things to consider

Who can serve as a CCI intern?

CCI Students have completed their first year of college and are at least 18 years of age.

Do I have to belong to a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship congregation?
No, but the church where you serve, will be a church that has a relationship with CBF

Why would I want to be a CCI intern this summer?
·         It is a great opportunity to serve in a local congregation that helps you to have a better understanding of why we serve Christ in community.  Each in intern helps with worship planning, learns how to connect with people in that congregation through a variety of ways and takes time to understand all that is involved in making the church the church.
·         This internship is a great opportunity If you are considering ministry as a life-calling, but it is equally valuable if you want to know more about the church and how you can be a connected.

Where would I serve?
There are several ways that we can help you find with a participating church:
·         You can apply and let us connect you with a church that is looking for an intern, but does not have anyone in their congregation.  Churches from all over the US apply to be a host church.  We would connect you with the several churches directly and together we would try to find the best fit for you and the church.
·         You may belong or attend to a CBF church where you would like to serve and we could help introduce them to the idea of having an intern.  Many churches are open to having an intern and do think that a student would want to serve with them for the summer
·         You may want to stay in a particular area for the summer to attend summer school or stay with a grandparent.  We will see if there is a CBF church in the area who is interested in mentoring an intern for the summer and make that connection for you.

How do I apply?

How Can a Church Connect with the Collegiate Congregation Internship (CCI) Project?

We're thinking bigger and reimagining the Collegiate Congregational Internships to be more emcompassing of the ethos of the Fellowship. This year, we're offering two ways for churches to connect with CCI:

·         Any Church that has an intern and would like for them to connect with other CBF interns is welcome to have their student be a Collegiate Congregational Intern. CBF will cover cost for the 3-day orientation for the first 50 interns that apply.  They will meet other students who are exploring congregational mentorships and have the support of each other and the CCI network.

·        The first 50 Churches that would like to apply for a $600 CBF grant to help defray the cost of an intern for 10 weeks this summer should apply using the application on this page. This grant can be used for 1 intern or divided up among several interns. These interns are required to attend orientation and debriefing and their cost for both will be covered by CBF.  There is also some travel funds that will help them defray the cost of attending.
