CBF Disaster Response: Tropical Storm Gustav
CBF is preparing to respond to Gustav, a storm that is expected to make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast on Sept. 1.
8/28/08 update
Remember that the Fellowship aids in rebuilding efforts following disasters; it is not a first response or search and rescue organization. After the storm, CBF disaster response coordinator Charles Ray and other CBF personnel will assess the needs, determine how the Fellowship can best respond, and communicate those needs to Fellowship Baptists. Response teams will only be sent to the disaster zone when it is deemed safe by state officials. Contact the disaster response coordinator in your state/regional CBF organization for more information on ways to respond.
About the Fellowship's Disaster Response
Although not a disaster relief organization, the Fellowship responds when major disasters strike around the world through its own resources or through partner organizations. When gift-in-kind donations are helpful in disaster relief, the Fellowship serves as a clearinghousing, matching a donor with a need in the disaster zone. Frequently, the Fellowship establishes a designated fund, where individuals and churches can financially contribute to relief for a specific disaster. When volunteers are needed, the Fellowship invites individuals and groups to apply for various service opportunities in the disaster zone.
Contact: Charles Ray, the Fellowship's national disaster response coordinator at (501) 680-2722 (C) or (501) 223-8586 (W).
