Mission Opportunity in San Antonio
Baptist Temple is a 100 year old church on the south side of San Antonio near the downtown area. We have a large, well-maintained facility located in an under-resourced, inner-city community. many of our neighbors are working poor and unchurched. The south side of San Antonio has over 230,000 people and is around 80% Hispanic. San Antonio, like other urban areas, faces the challenges of school dropout, gang activity, and lack of opportunities.
Summer mission teams will provide a ministry that goes a long way to bring the presence of Christ to this area of need in San Antonio and will help us reach our community. Part of the ministry will include a VBS-like summer day camp experience at Baptist Temple Church for neighborhood children in the morning. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided for the children through the San Antonio Food Bank's Summer Feeding Program. Afternoon work can include maintenance projects, backyard Bible clubs, music group performances, sports camp and/or work at other ministries in the community. Schedules are flexible and will vary according to teach team.
Visiting groups can be housed at the church where kitchen and shower facilities are available. There will be no charge for groups staying at the church. Nearby college dormitories can also be used for housing. Teams will need to provide their own transportation, meals., and ministry supplies. During the week teams will have the opportunity to take a break from work by taking advantage of local recreation opportunities including Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Sea World, San Antonio River Walk, the Alamo, the mission trail and more.
