Peer learning groups for ministers

Peer learning groups meet monthly to provide opportunities for worship, spiritual growth, study, discussion of ministry-related issues and fellowship. Currently, there over 130 peer learning groups of 6-12 members.  Special interest is given to ministers in their first seven years of ministry, ministers in rural settings, and ministers in multi-staff congregations.

Each group is led by a convener who was trained during the Fellowship’s General Assembly. The convener and group members determine the focus of each month’s gathering. The Fellowship provides the groups with suggested resources related to promoting pastoral excellence and congregational health.

Peer learning groups are a component of the Fellowship's Missional Congregations Initiative.  Many of of the first groups that began meeting in August and September of 2003 under a pilot program sponsored by the Lilly foundation are still meeting.  New groups are being formed and additional members are welcome.

The networks are spread across three geographic regions:

East Region Peer Learning Groups (including ministers in VA, NC, SC, KY)
Layne Smith, Coordinator

Central Region Peer Learning Groups (including ministers in TN, GA, AL, FL)
Laura Stephens-Reed, Coordinator

West Region Peer Learning Groups (including ministers in TX, OK, MO, IL, AR, KS)
Bill Bruster, Coordinator
