Having discerned that the time is right for you and your church to make the missional journey, it’s time to plan. The items below are intended to assist you with planning your church’s It’s Time emphasis.
The chairperson of the steering team should be a member of the church staff or a highly visible and respected church member with a gift for communication and the ability to communicate regularly with the church staff.
As you recruit each member of the steering team, make sure that you provide a copy of the relevant ministry description. Ministry descriptions for the steering team are listed later in this Administrative Guide under the section "It’s Time . . . to Organize." Promotional ideas for each coordinator and his or her area of work are listed in It’s Time . . . to Promote. Plan to meet weekly with the steering team and secure a weekly meeting commitment from each member. Set all of the weekly meeting dates and makes sure that the steering team has them. At these meetings you’ll receive reports of the work in individual areas and communicate further needs as the work develops.
Once you’ve secured the steering team, encourage each coordinator to recruit their own team of four to five to assist with their work. For example, the publicity coordinator might need assistance with hanging posters, assembling bulletin inserts, and making Sunday morning announcements. Remember, involvement is the key to success!
