Spiritual Formation - Getting Started

Here are a few tips and resources for helping you get a spiritual formation conversation going in your Sunday School class, fellowship, or church:

  1. Begin with prayer - God's will for humanity is to become like His Son Jesus (Romans 8:29).  Pray then with confidence, in accordance with God's will, that people will submit to formation, reformation, and transformation into Christ-likeness!
  2. Start small - begin looking for people desiring a deeper walk with God.  Begin conversation with them about forming a small group focused on spiritual formation and building Christian community.  Meet regularly to share in the spiritual disciplines or allow a spiritual formation resource to guide your group.   Consider using a resource from the Companions in Christ Series.
  3. Begin telling your groups story and encouarging other groups to begin.  Serve as a facilitator and resource guide for these groups.  No matter what, keep telling your group's story, relating your experience of God and community.
