Scriptural Texts on Community

The Bible speaks to us of community in many ways, including how we treat each other, the need for workers, helping the poor and loving and helping each other. 
 
These scriptures talk about inclusion and identifying and using assets for community building:
  • Matthew 9:37 - The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
  • Mark 6:30 - Jesus listens to the apostles as they share their stories.
  • Mark 6:35-44 - Jesus cares for the needs of the community and uses the available assets for the good of the whole.
  • Mark 10:13-16 - Everyone is worthy.  Jesus refuses to let others keep people away from him for any reason.  He seeks to include and encourage all who seek Him.
  • Mark 12:41-44 - Everyone has assets that can be used for God.
  • Luke 14:7-14, 15-23 - Inclusion – Jesus tells us to go outside our comfort zone, and outside our circle of friends to include others.
  • Acts 4:35-44 - How the community can pool their assets to help each other.
  • Galatians 5:13-14 - Serving one another in love.
  • Ephesians 2:10 - We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
  • James 2:14-26 - Faith and works.
  • James 3:13 - Show wisdom by deeds done in humility.
  • I John 2:9-11 - How to treat each other.
  • I John 3:10 - We are God’s children by what we do.
  • I Peter 5:1-7 - How to treat each other in church.
