Putting the Congregation to Work

walterlassiterdavidshermanhbbc.jpg People in congregations have a vast array of gifts, talents, skills and knowledge that can be used for God in our own backyards, across the nation and across the world.

We can use what we know to teach and work alongside others to help them learn to be independent.

In addition to the spiritual gifts listed in several Bible verses, we know enough about many things to teach others to take charge of their lives.

These talents and skills range from gardening and agricultural skills, home building and repair, working with people, money management, child care, medical skills—the list is unlimited!

A Church Assets Inventory is useful for discovering the many ways our congregations can work with others.  A Community Asset Inventory can also be used with community members.

  1. We need to know what skills and knowledge the congregation possesses.
  2. We need to know what they are passionate about.
  3. We need to begin to look through missional eyes.
  4. We can pray that God will match our gifts with the needs of others.
