Carter Offering for Religious Freedom & Human Rights
Deciding what you want to be is not easy in some parts of our world. By virtue of where you are born, your culture dictates what you will be: Shia, Christian, Kurd, Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox. It’s not a matter of choice. The Carter Offering at this year’s General Assembly in Memphis, Tenn., will be shared with the European Baptist Federation, whose work promotes the idea of religious freedom in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Europe. Learn more about the Offering at www.thefellowship.info/carteroffering.
Jobs at CBF
The CBF Resource Center in Atlanta currently has openings for four positions. The CBF Foundation has reopened the search for director of development. To learn more or to apply, go to www.thefellowship.info/jobs.
Food crises looms in refugee camps
Rising rice prices are creating food crises for the refugee camps housing the Karen people in Thailand. The Thailand Burma Border Consortium, which supplies food and building materials for nine camps, reports that decreasing ration levels could lead to severe malnutrition or starvation. The Consortium says $7.5 million is needed to avoid ration cuts. "Please be in prayer for this situation," said Duane Binkley, one of CBF's field personnel. "For those of you with Karen in your communities or churches, this will be a matter of deep concern as most will have family and friends still in the camps. For camp residents still undecided about whether to come to the U.S. or not, this might influence more to come, increasing the numbers of Karen around the country as well." To give, go to www.thefellowship.info and designate project #17001- Hunger Fund.

Many internationals come to study at universities in the Los Angeles area and bring their families with them. Lizzie Fortenberry, one of CBF’s fi eld personnel, focuses her ministry on the female spouses of international graduate students at the University of Southern California. Lizzie offers opportunities for fellowship by creating spaces where the women, often isolated and alone, can be “known,” through activities such as a weekly cooking class, informal conversation groups, and one-on-one relationships. Pray that God’s Spirit would work mightily in offering hope through Lizzie’s friendship with these women and their families.
