ATLANTA – The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is providing worship resources for partner churches planning Sunday as a day of prayer and remembrance for those affected by tsunami destruction. The resources, compiled by CBF’s Initiative for Congregational Life, are available on the Fellowship’s Web site, www.thefellowship.info.

Bo Prosser, the Fellowship’s congregational life coordinator, emphasized the importance of setting aside a Sunday for church-wide remembrance and prayer. "Corporately this provides us with ways to support one another as we pray for and support the victims," he said.

Resources include sample orders of service from Upper Room Ministries, Highland Baptist Church in Kentucky and CBF’s Atlanta Resource Center. Hymns written in response to the disaster are also available. Some hymns include original music and others are new lyrics sung to pre-existing tunes. As a sermon resource, Gary Deverell, a pastor in Australia, has submitted the text from his Epiphany sermon and columnist Tom Ehrich has submitted a devotional thought.

Prosser said the resources will be valuable to congregational leaders. "Church leaders need practical handles for helping their congregations think theologically and act faithfully. The resources help do that," he said.

Additional resources include a guide for praying through questions about the disaster, advice on how to handle the crisis with children, two literary responses and a listing of additional worship resources, Web sites and books.
