ATLANTA – Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Missions continues its response to the recent devastating natural disasters in Southeast Asia by providing relief and assistance in cooperation with its missions partners.

The following statement is from Daniel Vestal, Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, as an acknowledgement of grief and an appeal for response to the recent events in Southeast Asia.

An Acknowledgement and Appeal

December 30, 2004

We call upon Christians and churches in CBF, as well as partnering institutions, organizations and ministries to respond to this global crisis by giving time, energy, and resources. We make the following appeals:

  1. Set aside Sunday, January 9, 2005 (or a future Sunday), as a day of intercession, mourning, and reflection.
  2. Pray daily for those affected by the devastation and for those who are providing relief and aid.
  3. Communicate personally with elected officials (the President, members of Congress, governors, and state officials) to urge generous government assistance and involvement.
  4. Contribute personally to the relief efforts.
All gifts to CBF, designated for Asian Response, will be disbursed by Global Missions staff and field personnel in collaboration with CBF’s missions partners including World Vision, Habitat for Humanity, Buckner Orphan Care International, Church of Christ in Thailand, Baptist World Aid, Baptist Medical & Dental Fellowship and others. Visit www.thefellowship.info for a continuing updated list. Gifts should be earmarked #17016, Asian Response and can be mailed to:
