George Mason |
ATLANTA – George Mason, senior pastor at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, will be featured Jan. 16, Feb. 13 and March 27 on "Day 1," the nationally broadcast award-winning television and radio program.
Mason has been pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church, a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship affiliated church, for the past 15 years.
For his first sermon, Mason preaches about "Call Answerers" from the third chapter of 1 Samuel. The church, he says, needs to be intentional about identifying and preparing young people for vocations in the church. "The church is still where people find the life that is really life. This is where people are treasured for who they are apart from the size of their treasure. This is where people stand up for justice and speak up for the voiceless. This is where we practice on each other how to love our neighbor."
Mason is a native of New York City and a graduate of the University of Miami, Fla., where he majored in business and was quarterback of the football team. He earned both master of divinity and a doctor of philosophy degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He is the former pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala.
Formerly known as "The Protestant Hour," "Day 1" has been broadcast every week for more than years, winning numerous awards in the process, including the George Foster Peabody Award and the 2003 Communicator Award for excellence in inspirational radio. Produced by the Episcopal Media Center, it features preachers from CBF, the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the United Methodist Church, and the United Church of Christ.
A television version of "Day 1" also is broadcast Sunday mornings on the Hallmark Channel’s "America at Worship" series.
The executive producer for "Day 1," Peter Wallace, will consult with churches that want to have the radio program broadcast in their community. For more information, call toll free (888) 411-Day-1 or check the program’s Web site, www.Day1.net.
