Church makes ministry commitment on reservation
Until last summer, CBF didn’t have much of a ministry presence in Buffalo County, S.D. Leadership from CBF’s rural poverty initiative had identified the county as a place where transforming ministry could take place, but they couldn’t find anyone to make a long-term commitment. When Ashworth Road Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa, learned about the ministry, members responded. As one of the closest CBF partner churches to Buffalo County, a few members made the seven-hour drive to Crow Creek Indian Reservation, where they met with leaders from the county’s largest reservation. CBF provides funds for disaster response in Chile
The Fellowship has contributed $5,000 toward disaster response in southern Chile, where volcanic activity has forced thousands to evacuate. The funds will be used by area Baptist churches that are helping evacuees with food, clothing and spiritual support. Financial contributions can be made to the Fellowship to support disaster relief efforts in Chile and other countries. Give online at www.thefellowship.info/give or by mail at P.O. Box 101699, Atlanta, GA 30392, with checks payable to CBF and "Chile #17000" in the memo line. One hundred percent of donations go directly to rebuilding and restoration efforts.
AlabamaCBF holds Spring Gathering
More than 150 Fellowship Baptist attended the AlabamaCBF Spring Gathering May 3. For the first time, the event offered teaching stations and activities for all ages. Many of the activities and worship sessions focused on caring for God’s creation. For more information, go to www.alabamacbf.org.
Latin American leaders hold summit
The Union of Baptists in Latin America (UBLA) held a summit of convention presidents in Panama, April 17-20. The meeting, which also included general secretaries from most of the Baptist conventions and unions in Central and South America, had representation from 19 countries. CBF staff members Harry Rowland and Laura Cadena represented the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Sessions focused on Baptist work and witness in countries affiliated with UBLA, one of six continental unions that are part of the Baptist World Alliance. To learn more, go visit www.bwanet.org.
