Poverty/Transformational Ministries

Refugee Ministry, Dallas/Fort Worth area
Refugees are coming in large numbers to the U.S.; over 3,000 will be resettled in the DFW area this year. We, as Christians, can reach out to them with the love of Christ and provide opportunities to help them. Opportunities to serve include: ESL classes, sports, music and day camps, teaching basic healthcare practices (like how to navigate our healthcare system), dental/medical clinics, employment skills classes and much more. The opportunities are unlimited and as creative as the individual or group would like to be. This opportunity is perfect for groups, individuals and families.

Village Medical Team, Macedonia
There are four remote villages in need of medical assistance. Groups (up to 6 people) will be working with two doctors (one Macedonian, one Albanian). The clinics will be for women and children and involve general check-ups and healthcare issues.
When: August 2013 Length: 7-10 days

Women's Shelter Facility Repair, Weldon, N.C.
We have begun  a homeless shelter for women and children. It is located in an impoverished area. The structure used for the shelter is in need of repair!   Painting and small repair projects are needed.   Assistance in providing short-term programming are welcome. When: Ongoing Length: 5 days

Homeless Shelter Repair and Service Work, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
Union Mission is a community center and homeless shelter, located in the downtown area. Facility painting is an ongoing need with regards to the repair. There is also a need for a children's day camp or after-school program.Union Mission distributes 700 boxes of food monthly and there is a need for non-perishable food items.   They recycle clothing to make mission dollars for ministry. Used and worn out clothing is welcome.  Mission teams can bring with them food and clothing as they visit us. The Timothy Project, Variety of Locations in the Southern U.S.
The Timothy Project coordinates mission trips and activities for church groups (primarily youth) in the southeastern United States.  They work with groups to coordinate their missions activities, lodging, meals, and more. Groups can do VBS or Back Yard Bible Clubs

CLUE Camp Mission Teams, Brooklyn, New York
Mission teams are needed to lead a day camp ministry to at-risk children at Albany Homes in partnership with Greater Restoration Baptist Church in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. When: July/August 2013 Length: 1 week

Roma Carelink, Slovakia
Individual and small teams (3-5 people) are needed to help provide access to health care and health education for isolated Roma communities. Partnerships with local churches, community centers, and schools provide community entry points to reach out with the love of Christ to the roma. Assignments will be planned around the specialties of team members. Women's health, pediatric health, community health issues, etc--the possibilities are limited only by the interests of the team. Partnerships with Indigenous Ministries, Slovakia or Czech Republic
Teams of 5-20 individuals are needed to serve alongside of local ministry partner ministries doing Backyard Bible Clubs, Youth Camps, Sports Camps, Family Camps, English Outreach Camps, and other assignments according to teams' gifts and interests. When: Ongoing Length: 7-10 days

Bedouin Ministry & Hunger Relief, Lebanon
Teams are needed to assist with ministry in Bedouin areas. Ministries include working with children, preparing and delivering food and medicine, building, and more. When: Ongoing Length: 10 days

Open House Ministries - Florida
Desperately needs a volunteer with a clerical background. The OHM office is in need of a major make-over. Volunteer(s) are needed to file, clean, and organize so that the ministry can function more efficiently.

Sowing Seeds of Hope: Variety of Social Ministries, Alabama
Teams and Families are needed to help in the areas of: housing rehabilitation; literacy; community development projects; health care; sports/drama camps for youth and children; partnerships with local organizations and churches; and other special projects keeping with the specific skills/interests of the short term group. These projects are designed in partnership with the local community to make the best use of the abilities/skills/talents of the groups or individuals who partner with us. When: Open Length: Ongoing

Social Ministry, Home Repair, Community Outreach, Kentucky
Individuals and teams are needed for a variety of ministries including- home repair,Bible study, community outreach, playing BINGO, school/baby shower supplies . When: Ongoing Length: One week

Urban Summer Camp and Homeless Ministry, Touching Miami with Love
Teams will coordinate a summer camp for children (K-5), lead worship services to include preaching, assist with a clothing closet, fellowship with the homeless, and prepare meals. Afternoons and evenings will include working in a local gardening project, BBQ cookout, movie night, and a tour of the historic Overtown and downtown Miami districts. Teams need to have 25 people to staff all projects and events during the week. Cost is $240 per person for room and board, field trip, and administrative fees. Does not include transportation to and from Miami. When: June 16-23, June 30-July 7, and July 21-28 Length: One week

Swimming Instructors and Helpers - Helena, Arkansas
Instructors needed to teach swimming lessons to kids, ages 6-12, from Monday to Friday. Individuals will work in teams of two, instructing five to seven kids. Swimming instructor certification not required, but volunteers must be excellent swimmers capable of teaching skills to beginners. Red Cross and YMCA swimming program guidelines will be followed by all instructors. Lesson for kids will be from 10am to 1pm each day. Adult lessons will be evenings, 6pm to 7pm. Instructors and helpers must be at least 14 years old. Housing available at a local church for $15 per week. When: Summer Length: One Week

All Church Challenge-Helena, Arkansas
Individuals/teams will work in the impoverished areas of Phillips and Lee Counties. Projects will include VBS/Sports camps, Bookshelf Buddies (a mentoring literacy program combining light construction with reading times), Stories on Wheels, community garden, and blessing ministry. When: July 7-11 and July 14-19 Length: One week

Teams are needed to assist individuals in Staten Island as they seek to rebuild after the recent storms.

2013 Legacy Build through Fuller Center for Housing, Atlantic City, NJ
Teams are needed to join CBF Partner, Fuller Center for Housing, as they seek to rebuild/repair 20 homes that sustained major flood damage. When: April 28- May 3 NOTE: Sign-up deadline: April 10, 2013
Gulf Coast Rebuilding, Gulf Coast

Hurricane recovery work in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama 
Teams are needed for drywall removal, drywall installation, removal and installation of flooring, roofing, painting, and general clean-up. Teams will have basic logistical needs provided. This project is available through an ongoing partnership with Rebuilding Together. When: Ongoing Length: Flexible

Haiti Earthquake Response, Grand Goave, Haiti
Medical and construction teams are needed to be a part of our response efforts in Haiti. Medical personnel such as: doctors, nurses, dentists, EMTs, and more are needed. Construction teams will be doing a lot of cement and block work. When: Ongoing Length: 7 days
 


Internationals Ministries

Immigrant Community Outreach, Southern Spain
Teams or individuals are needed to do immigrant community outreach. This includes, but is not limited to, classes to teach a trade (sewing, computer skills, etc), children's activities, cultural exchange cooking, development of media pieces, bible studies/discipleship training, coffee/tea house, feeding the hungry, vegetable delivery, and more. Volunteers are welcome, in collaboration with field personnel, to be creative with regards to ministries. Ministries will be formed around volunteers' skill sets and passions. This opportunity is very flexible. Spanish or French skills would be useful, but are not required as there are many English speaking immigrants in the area. Social and Spiritual Outreach Volunteer(s), Southern Spain
Teams or individuals will work to build relationships with African immigrants through humanitarian outreach, micro-enterprise development, educational classes, etc. so that they might be able to share their personal testimony and how God has changed their life in a very personal way. volunteers may also be working with local African Evangelical  Congregations by leading worship, discipleship/faith formation classes, children's ministry activities, music programs, etc. (in English). Spanish-speaking volunteers would have the opportunity to work with local Spanish Baptist Churches to provide training, lead services, and partner in ministries specific to a local church. Summer Camp Workers, Homestead, FL
Summer camp workers needed to assist Open House Ministries summer camp, for approximately  70 children, from 8:30-2:30, Monday through Friday. The children will have four lessons each day (Bible study, music, crafts, and recreation.) Workers should come prepared to assist in one specific area, based on their talents and gifts. Housing is available at a local rooming house for $12 per night, possible use of church fellowship hall, or local motels. When: Summer Length: Six days

University faculty from all disciplines, as well as professionals from all fields are needed to network with their English-speaking Greek counterparts in Athens, Greece. Through the Internet, connect with Greek professionals from your field and plan to convene/converse with them in person at PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

Change Management and Strategic Planning Assistance in Athens, Greece
Professionals with training and experience in these disciplines are needed to assist PORTA – the Albania House in Athens, as well as individual Albanian immigrants, to plan for the future. Translation assistance from English is available.

Spring/Summer Hospitality Manager in Athens, Greece
A couple is needed to assist with the program and provide hospitality ministry for PORTA – the Albania House in Athens, for a period of from 3 weeks to 2 months, for a agreed-upon time frame, sometime between May and July, 2013. Duties include coordination of volunteers, assistance with management of day-to-day operations and encouragement of small groups of English-speaking Albanian believers.

Social Work Professional in Athens, Greece
A current or recently-retired professor of social work or an active social worker is needed to establish relationships/networks with Greek social workers and provide a generalized social needs assessment overview of the Albanian immigrant community in selected neighborhoods in Athens, Greece. Results of networking and assessment will be used in program development through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.

Social Needs Surveys for Albanians in Athens, Greece
Individuals or teams are needed to assist with social needs surveys. Social sciences students gain valuable field experience in cross-cultural social work systems and survey administration through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.

Marriage & Family Encouragement for Albanians in Athens, Greece
Christian couples with healthy families and training or experience in marriage and family enrichment are needed to lead workshops for young Albanian couples. Both Christian & non-Christian couples participate in workshops through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.

Computer/Electronic Technician in Athens, Greece
An individual is needed to provide general electronic and Internet technology assistance for PORTA –the Albania House in Athens. For a period of from 1 to 3 weeks, the person would advise, trouble-shoot technical problems, make repairs, propose further technological development, etc. regarding the Computer Learning Center at PORTA, media options, as well as other technology-related issues to support this ministry among Albanian immigrants in Athens, Greece.

Prayer and support teams are needed for evangelistic celebrations.

Barnabas Friendship Discipleship Training in Athens, Greece
“Barnabas Friends” are needed to work one-on-one or in small (3 member) English-language groups of new Albanian Believers for a minimum period of two weeks. Meeting with Albanian believers, the person will assist in the development of spiritual disciplines (prayer, quiet time, scripture memory, etc.) and share other practices essential to Christian discipleship through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

VBS leadership for Albanians in Athens, Greece
A team is needed to provide crafts, recreation and drama for VBS in June, 2012 at the Second Greek Evangelical Church in Athens, Greece. Most of the children are from Albanian immigrant families and are ministered to through the church and PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.
 
Prayer Walking, Flier Distribution, Building Maintenance in Athens, Greece
Individuals and teams can deepen their awareness of the spiritual needs of Albanian immigrants, build personal relationships with new Christians, assist with promotion of program events, as well as provide routine maintenance for the facilities of PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

9-year old male suffering from cerebral palsy (speech delay, lack of coordination and abnormal movements) needs time and attention spent with him to help meet is physical and emotional needs. College interns welcome, too.

Nairobi Medical Outreach Project
Doctors and nurses are needed to travel to Kenya to perform surgeries, carry out medical consultations, and teach medical and nursing students. There are five trips planned for this year. A commitment to more than one trip would be desirable.

In addition to teaching visually impaired students, the individual will also provide training and/or conversation practice for teaching staff (sighted). Retreat Center Construction, Lebanon
Teams are needed to help in the construction of a retreat center which will be a place where pastors and Christians from the Middle East and Africa can go for training, relaxation, and other opportunities. Help with painting, setting cement blocks, plumbing, landscaping, and electrical work are all needed. Skills in those at least one of those areas are required. When: Ongoing Length: Two weeks

Working through the Chinese government to place ESL teachers in impoverished areas of the country (paid positions-TIP program)

EFL with Albanians in Athens, Greece
Individuals and teams are needed to assist with English-as-a-Foreign-Language training. Persons and groups can provide conversation labs for and friendship with Albanian immigrants in Athens, Greece who are learning English through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

EFL In-Service Teacher Training in Athens, Greece
An individual is needed to offer an in-service workshop for the EFL faculty of PORTA – the Albania House in Athens and a “How to Teach EFL” seminar for inexperienced EFL teachers from the Albanian & American expat community. 4 current teachers need refresher training in curriculum updates, games, supplementary resources available, use of the Internet, new ideas, etc. and numerous Albanian & American expats need beginner teacher training.

Leadership Training for Youth in Athens, Greece
Individuals with a concern for young people and cross-cultural experience are needed to inspire and train Albanian immigrant youth toward the personal disciplines necessary to develop as leaders, in school and in the future. Volunteers will provide individualized instruction, mentoring and friendship, as well as lay the ground work for summer leadership camp for Albanian youth through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

Computer Instruction in Athens, Greece
Individuals with experience and training in computer learning and usage are needed to provide simple, English-language introductory instruction and labs for Albanian immigrants and/or advanced training for the local Albanian computer instructor. Individualized learning is offered through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens.

Arts and Crafts Enrichment for Albanians in Athens, Greece
Individuals or teams are needed to assist with art and creativity workshops for children and adults. Most participants are Albanian immigrants and participate in programs through the Second Greek Evangelical Church and PORTA- the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.

Mime and Drama Teams for Albanians in Athens, Greece
Groups are needed to perform short, Christian dramas for both adult and children’s audiences. Workshops for those interested in drama could also be offered through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. Translation assistance is available.

Puppet Ministry Assistance for Albanian Believers in Athens, Greece
Individuals with experience in cross-cultural puppet ministry are needed to assist Albanian believers with little experience in puppet ministry. Informal workshops will be offered through PORTA – the Albania House in Athens regarding how to use puppets, where to find music and how to communicate simple Gospel truths to a non-English speaking audience. Translation assistance is available.

Library Development in Athens, Greece
A trained librarian or an individual with library experience is needed to update the lending library for PORTA – the Albania House in Athens. This library for Albanian immigrants in Athens was originally organized in July, 2009; assistance is needed to update the holdings which have been received since that time; work involves classification and location of new holdings. Translation assistance is available.

Pastoral Care Seminary Professor- Philippines
A professor is needed to work with the pastoral care graduate program from 1-2 years. Professor will be responsible for supervising currently enrolled students as they seek to complete their degrees. Housing is provided. When: Currently seeking applicants Length: one semester - 2 years

Visiting Professor and Research Scholar, Philippines
The main responsibility will be to teach one or two seminars in the base school in the Philippines. The workers may also travel to several other schools within the consortium to teach, possibly Thailand, Singapore and Taiwan. When: Ongoing Length: 6 months to 1 year

Conversational English Teachers - China
Teams or individuals are needed to teach conversational English to 13 to 17 year olds in Sichuan province. This is a 10 day camp for junior high and high school students. Curriculum provided in advance for teachers. Volunteers will teach in two or three person teams, with three hours of English teaching in the mornings and afternoon activities organized by teachers (music, drama, art, games, etc.). Lodging in local motels, meals, and local transportation included in estimated cost. When: Summer 2013 Length: Two weeks
