Diann and Philip Whisnand
Location: McAllen, Texas
Hometown: Midland, Texas
Commissioned: 2005
Diann and Philip began their service with CBF as ministers to the migratory Hispanic population roaming the western United States, and after six years, concluded that particular ministry in 2011.
They have recently taken on a new CBF ministry, again relating to the Hispanic population. They are now located in the extreme southern tip of Texas, an area known as the “Rioplex”. This area borders Mexico, and the two countries are separated only by the famous Rio Grande River.
The Whisnands will be working with Mexican people living in colonias, colonies located along the U.S. side of the Rio Grande. Most people who live in the colonias are Mexican immigrants or refugees who are trying to better their lives in a new country. The Whisnands will be addressing many issues related to poverty. They will also be a conduit between the many individuals and churches who partner with ministry along the Texas border.
“We are excited to begin serving here along the U.S./Mexican border, and are looking forward to working with individuals, churches, institutions and agencies who have expressed to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship an interest in doing the same,” said Diann.
“As native Texans coming from a missional church background, we grew up doing mission work in Mexico and are very comfortable in this role. We’re grateful to God for the opportunity to do this once again. We love the Mexican people and culture. It’s home,” said Philip.
