Lori & Tim Myrick
Location: Kenya
Hometown: Blue Springs, Mo.
Commissioned: 1997
Tim, a physician, and Lori, a nurse, live and minister in Kenya among indigenous Kenyans, who are predominantly Christian, as well as refugees from Somalia, who are primarily Muslim. Tim is a staff physician at a local hospital, where he focuses on internal medicine. He also works at several outpatient clinics, which are sometimes in rural areas where medical care isn't as accessible. Many of the patients are poor and some live with serious diseases.
"Many have general aches and pains. Many are psychologically traumatized. Many are very ill. We see plenty of cancers, tuberculosis, AIDS, and strange neglected injuries," the Myricks said. "Sometimes we are able to pray with patients in Jesus’ name, or share a simple message of hope in Him."
The Myricks' work also includes teaching and mentoring local medical students and doctors "who will be able to help many of the sick in their country and hopefully train others to do the same."
