Dianne & Shane McNary

Location:
Slovakia

Hometown: Benton, Ark.

Commissioned: 2004

The McNarys are involved in a local Slovak Baptist Church, preaching once a month at a mission of the church. They work in partnership with several organizations – Roma schools, the Czech Republic and its ministry with Roma, addressing hunger needs with Heifer Slovakia and working with local churches to provide training for ministers. Dianne leads an English language literature club at an extension of the United States Embassy in Kosice, coordinates a health and feeding program at a local Roma school, and teaches health class at the international school their children attend.

“God has made my heart soft for people who are ignored or unwanted,” Dianne said. “We are working with the Romany people because they are some of the most despised, unwanted people in Europe. Many are poor and unemployed, struggling to live on public assistance. Most are concerned with what’s happening today with little thought for tomorrow or next week or next year.”

The McNarys’ dream for their ministry is to facilitate the establishment of Romany-led churches throughout Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
