Duane & Marcia Binkley

Location:
Thailand and Uniontown, Ohio

Hometowns: Painesville, Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio

Commissioned: 2007

The Binkleys minister among Karen refugees in the United States and Thailand. For six decades, the Karen people have been the victims of an ethnic-cleansing campaign waged against minority groups by the military dictatorship government of Burma/Myanmar. Driven from their homeland, they have also had to endure harsh conditions in refugee camps along the Thai border with Myanmar. Recently, tens of thousands of Karen refugees have begun relocation to the United States. Not only do the Binkleys continue to travel to Thailand to minister in refugee camps, but they also help with Karen ministries across the United States.

Many Karen are Baptist, due to the influence of work begun almost two hundred years ago by Baptist missionaries from the United States. Thus, as they relocate to the United States, they are seeking a connection with our Baptist churches. The Binkley’s help U.S. churches with resources to enhance existing ministries or to start new ministries that reach out to the Karen, including helping them adjust to their new life in the United States.

In 2007, the Binkleys were commissioned for service with CBF. They are jointly supported by CBF and International Ministries of American Baptist Churches USA.
