You can be part of alleviating and addressing systemic causes of poverty. Whether it’s rural and urban ministry, or ministry with orphans and neglected children, you can help make a difference. The following projects assist with poverty and transformation ministries.

Hunger Relief Ministry

Feed those in need in the Middle East

In the Middle East, thousands of Baptist Christians are living in poverty and struggling to survive. Your gift provides assistance to individuals and families who need basic resources.

$50.00 will buy medication for a family for one month.

$30.00 will buy basic food and household items for one month.


Bethel House of Christian Help

Give a hand up to former orphans in the Czech Republic

Many children living in the Czech Republic’s state-run orphanages are Romany, one of the most marginalized people groups living in Europe. At 18 years of age, they can no longer live in the orphanage and often lack the basic life skills necessary to live on their own. Bethel House is a half-way house providing life skills and job training for up to three years.

$50.00 will buy supplies and refreshments for the Oasis children’s ministry.

$100.00 will support one young adult for one month in Bethel’s half-way house.

$1,100.00 will provide one month’s salary for a minister at Bethel House.


Change for Children

Change a child’s life in Kenya

Through the “Change for Children” program, you can help make it possible for a nursery-aged child to attend school in one of several Integrated Child Development Centers. These centers not only provide education but also community development in poor villages.

$35.00 buys a school uniform for a child.

$350.00 buys a solar cooker system for areas where fuel for cooking is scarce.

$1,300.00 buys a swing set at a school, enabling children to play and develop motor skills.

$2,000.00 begins a beehive project, which will generate income and eventually provide salaries for teachers.

$750.00 buys a year’s worth of education materials for 80 children.


Books for the Border

Help children learn to read

Children raised in homes with books and where their parents read to them are more likely to enter first grade ready to learn and even more likely to graduate from high school. Books for the Border provides home libraries to families living in poverty in counties along the Rio Grande River in Texas. Families decorate their own bookcases and select books for use at home.

$8.00 purchases a children’s Bible storybook.

$10.00 purchases a wooden bookcase.

$5.00 purchases a children’s book in Spanish.


Local Asset Based Community Development Training

Help equip a leader in one of the 20 poorest counties in the United States

One of the primary goals of Together for Hope, the Fellowship’s rural poverty initiative, is to assist people as they seek to build their lives and their community. A key piece to that ministry is working with the gifts and skills that are present in the community in order to address the long-term changes that may need to occur in a community. Assisting in outside education can be a part of helping those local individuals as they lead in this process.

$1,000.00 makes it possible for one student from one of the 20 poorest counties in the United States to attend a Community Development Academy. This includes registration and books, room and board and travel.

$500.00 purchases half of the cost for one person to go to the Community Development Academy.

$150.00 makes it possible for one person to go through an online training course in the foundations of Community Development.


Oral History Project

Support a storytelling effort in a rural county

Together for Hope, the Fellowship’s rural poverty initiative, ministers in Perry County, Ala., where local leaders want to record the beautiful stories of challenge and change in this community with a rich history in civil rights. As members of the community who were involved in the civil rights movement get older, it is more important than ever to tell those stories before they are lost. Your gift will make it possible for people in the community to be involved in this storytelling project.

$75.00 purchases part of one recording instrument to be used.

$150.00 makes it possible for a trained oral historian to work with community members on taking their oral histories for one day.

$1,000.00 makes it possible for an oral history retreat to be offered to the community.

Meeting hunger needs in Spain

Many African immigrants living in Spain find it difficult to provide for themselves and their family’s basic nourishment. Your gift helps provide them with one of life’s most basic needs.

$16.00 provides for a 1 kilo can of powdered baby formula.

$37.00 provides for a 22 kilo sack of rice.

$7.00 provides for a 5 kilo sack of potatoes.

$80.00 provides the funds to buy a sheep.
