Justice and Peacemaking Ministries

You can be part of fighting for human rights and against such tragedies as human trafficking, child labor, war, and genocide. Help work for women’s rights and for reconciliation in the world. The following projects address issues of justice and peacemaking.

Baking skills

Provide an opportunity for women in Thailand to escape prostitution

In Chiang Mai, Thailand, there are many young women who have been victims of sex trade. Your gift will help to nurture these women in a Christian environment, teaching baking skills that can provide income that prevents them from falling back into prostitution. The project needs kitchen appliances, tools, and a one-year salary for the baking teacher.

$25.00 shares in the gift

$8,000.00 provides for the entire project.

Karen and Chin Refugees

Help refugees from Burma/Myanmar

For six decades, the Karen people have been the victims of an ethnic-cleansing campaign waged against minority groups by the military dictatorship government of Burma/Myanmar. Driven from their homeland, they have also had to endure harsh conditions in refugee camps along the Thai border with Myanmar. Recently, tens of thousands of Karen refugees have begun relocation to the United States. Many Karen are Baptist, because of the influence of work begun almost 200 years ago by Baptist missionaries. Thus, as they relocate to the United States, they are seeking a connection with our Baptist churches.

$12.00 provides one Bible in the Karen or Burmese language.

$50.00 provides supplies for English language training for refugees settled in the United States.

$10.00 provides one hour of translation assistance for a refugee going to the doctor or other appointment.

$250.00 provides one week of salary for a Karen or Chin-speaking pastor.
