Building Community is one of the four strategic initiatives in the CBF long-range plan. Through this initiative, the staff of Congregational Life seeks to equip, empower, and encourage individuals and congregations as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission. Building Community seeks to nurture authentic community both within and beyond the local parish.

Specifically, Building Community involves…

  1. Congregational Health – assisting congregations towards wholeness and wellness.
  2. Baptist Identity and Relationships – assisting congregations to continue embracing historic Baptist Principles and engage in meaningful partnerships. This area supports several of those partnerships which share the core values of the moderate Baptist movement.
  3. Ecumenical and Interfaith Dialogue and Reconciliation and Justice – these two priorities lead us to build bridges to meaningful relationships with people of other faith stances without surrendering our own. These also lead us to stand up for those who need the presence of Christ in their lives. We choose to advocate for responding to the critical needs of our world.
  4. Marriage and Family – assisting congregations and families in building stronger marriages and more committed family systems.
  5. Chaplains, Pastoral Counselors, and Ministers in Specialized Settings – This priority has emerged in the past few years in response to those pastoral care ministers seeking endorsement to service and a home in which to practice these ministries.
