General Assembly Collection Projects
When you come to the Assembly, pack a few extra items that can make a difference for several ministries. Four local, national and international ministries have requested items that will enhance their ability to minister. Consider bringing a few of the items listed below with you to the Assembly. Items will be collected throughout the Assembly, so you can also purchase items while in Memphis.
- Collect items for Stories on Wheels, a ministry in Helena, Ark., that provides educational opportunities for children who normally world not have that opportunity. CBF field personnel Ben and Leonora Newell, who live and serve in Helena, are requesting donations of school supplies, children’s books and craft supplies. Donate your items at the Stories on Wheels bus, which will be displayed in the Resource Fair.
- Collect items for the All Africa Games, which will be held in Zambia. This is a huge honor for this country, and CBF has been asked to help prepare for the basketball events. CBF field personnel Fran and Lonnie Turner, who live and serve in sub-Saharan Africa, are requesting whistles, basketball nets, ball pumps, ball needles and deflated basketballs. Donate your items in the registration area of the Convention Center.
- Collect items for Crosslink International, a medical ministry that has an office in nearby First Baptist Church of Memphis. Every day a small dedicated staff sort through medical supplies that come from all over the US. These supplies are in turn used by short term medical mission teams all over the world. Crosslink is requesting medical supplies, bandages, antibiotic ointments/salves, band aids and sterile gloves. Donate your items in the registration area of the Convention Center.
- Collect items for Kentucky's Nada and Owsley Counties, where CBF ministers through Together for Hope, its rural poverty initiative. CBF continues to be the presence of Christ in these rural areas, and these items help to meet a physical need that in turn opens the door for addressing deeper spiritual needs. Items needed are soap, shampoo, gallon size zip lock bags, toothbrushes, toothpaste, McDonald’s gift certificates, paper towels, toilet paper, socks, hotel size shampoo, lotion and coffee filter packs. Donate your items in the registration area of the Convention Center.
